Facial Hair, Hair and “The Assassin”
Below are of issues that need addressing with all our officials and coaches across the state:
1) When a wrestler comes to weigh ins, their hair should meet the hair rule, or they should have a hair cover. This year the wrestlers have the option ofputting their hair up with a rubber band, non-abrasive and not a hard devicesuch as beads. When the officials inspect the wrestlers at weigh ins thewrestler’s hair should not be touched or pulled down (toward their eyes). Aslong as the wrestler does not have an illegal substance (grease) the hair aswe see it is all the official should go by. No need to ask the wrestler to shaketheir hair or touch the wrestler’s hair anymore.
2) If a wrestler has facial hair, other than a neatly trimmed mustache that doesn’t extend below the lower lip, the only way the wrestler can have facialhair is if they wear a full-face mask. If a wrestler has hair on their chin, achin cup on their head gear is not good enough to not have to shave. Theoptions are shave or wear a face mask.
3) It has been brought to our attention about a reconstituted wrestling move titled: “The Assassin”. It is a variation of the Kolat maneuver that has gainedrecent notoriety and has several elements that ranges between unnecessaryroughness, potentially dangerous to illegal hold/maneuver. The attachedillustration was commissioned by Mr. Jim Vreeland, former Ohio StatewideWrestling Interpreter and a very talented artist by the name of Steve Long.Steve has been a long-time friend and contributor of the Ohio High SchoolAthletic Association (OHSAA) and has lent his artistic talents to capturingvarious moves, holds and maneuvers.
