Auto tinting laws vary from state to state. Following are Colorado tint laws.
Darkness Of Window Tinting
The darkness of window tinting is measured in terms of Visible Light Transmission Percentage (VLT%),
which refers to the amount of visible light that comes through the combination of film and window.
Colorado has two options. Colorado’s tint laws permit the following:
Windshield – Non-reflective window tint is permitted on the top four inches of the windshield.
Front Side Windows – Window tinting is permitted as long as it allows at least 27% VLT.
Back Side Windows – Window tinting is permitted as long as it allows at least 27% VLT.
Rear Window – Window tinting is permitted as long as it allows at least 27% VLT.
OR
Windshield - Non-reflective window tint is permitted on the top four inches of the windshield.
Front Side Windows - No tint on the front two windows if the back allows less than 27% VLT.
Back Side Windows - Any % is allowed if there is no tint on the front two windows.
Rear Window - Any % is allowed if there is no tint on the front two windows.
Reflective Or Metallic Tinting
According to Colorado state law, no metallic or mirrored appearance window tinting is allowed on front windows, side windows, or back windows.
Other Colorado Window Tinting Laws and Regulations
By Colorado law, no red tint color is permitted, mirrors are required if back windows are tinted, and no sticker is required to identify legal tinting.
