Why do some cars have blue-tinted headlights?
Matt Barnes, Peterborough, England
- They're fluorescent lights and apparently they show up reflective materials such as cyclists' jackets better.
Thibault Lury, Rennes, France
- To look flash!
Andy, Newcastle
- Those cars with blue-tinted headlights have xenon gas bulbs, which give a much brighter, more natural light, thus giving more visibility. The blue tinge tends to come when the light is not shined directly onto the viewer.
Stephen Smith, St Albans, UK
- These cars have Xenon gas in their lamps that emmit a bluer colour than the halogen gas in standard light bulbs.
Jack Jones, Cardiff, UK
- As I believe, UK law specifically forbids the showing of any light to the front of a motor vehicle other than white lights, flashing indicators excepted, which must be yellow / amber.
