What’s in a name?

Oh LOTS, if you ask me!

Imagine buying a soap called * Stink Stains!* or a chocolate named Doggy Poo or even a clothing brand called Comfort Stealers! Doesn’t sound too appealing does it? Same way, it is as important to think of appropriate Titles for Reviews on MS, as it is to write engaging reviews.

The Title of a review is what attracts the reader towards a review. To give a dictionary definition, a title is a general or descriptive heading for a section of a written work. So, a piece of writing, your review in this case, is incomplete and lifeless without a title to match. So, here are some pointers on how to write Effective, Creative and Appropriate titles for review! Read on…

Content and Purpose

When thinking of a title, it is very important to consider the review’s topic and content. The title can either give a whiff of the material following it, or create some sort of mystery that intrigues the consumer to read the review! The title can also give a clear indication of the reviewer’s opinion on the product. In short, the title should beOpen to creativity! The main purpose of a title is to attract readers to the review. So to achieve this goal, there are some points worth considering.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1.Have some sort of relation to the Content! For example, while writing a review on Dressing for a Formal Party, DO NOT have a title like, “Shahrukh Khan Rocks!” Neither does it remotely relate to the topic nor does it excite the reader too much. It only leaves some sort of confusion on the writer’s understanding! Not such a good attraction technique, right?
  1. Make sure the title is spelt correctly and is grammatically comprehensive! Simple linguistic errors can put off a reader and gives the impression that the reviewer does not give enough importance to the review or the title. So, having a title saying, “How chose a clan opnenrs” isn’t exactly ideal!
  2. Be Creative!If you’re writing under a particular topic, its not too appealing to give your review the same title. For example, if you write a review on Black, avoid titling your review Black too. Instead, use your creativity and unleash that imagination!
  3. Keep it simple! Here, I don’t mean you have to keep the content of the title simple, No, u can be as complex as you please! What I intend here is the length of the title. Try to be short and concise! Having a Loooooong title bores the reader even before he’s started reading the review and I’m sure that is not your intention! I personally prefer maximum 4-5 word long titles, since they catch my eyes and serve their purpose much more effectively than long, on-going and monotonous titles!
5.Play around with the format- If you want to emphasise on certain words and letters in the title, don’t hesitate to put them in caps lock or quotes. Don’t shy away from using symbols(e.g. Exclamation marks, questions marks, etc.). However, keep in mind, whatever symbols you use to spice up the title, use them in moderation! Don’t have more symbols than words since usually people don’t understand Symbolish(like Gibberish you know…didn’t get the joke? Don’t fret, neither did I!)
