Subaru has named its upcoming rear-drive sports car the BRZ—the company says it stands for “Boxer engine, Rear-wheel drive, and Zenith”—and announced that production will start in the spring of 2012. The car, of course, was created in collaboration with Toyota, who will release it here under the Scion banner.
Subaru will bring a technology concept of the BRZ—isn’t that awfully close to Honda’s CR-Z?—to Frankfurt called the “Subaru BRZ Prologue – Boxer Sports-Car Architecture II.” The SBRZPBSCA2 will resemble the Boxer Sports-Car Architecture concept Subaru displayed at this year’s Geneva auto show. Based on a teaser website Subaru has set up, the Frankfurt concept will again be a mostly see-through structure with a boxer engine bolted into the engine bay.

Occasionally, he takes a subpar photograph or whips together a cheesy illustration to the chagrin of C/D’s art staff. More often he can be found taking needlessly contrarian positions in inter-office car debates.
