How Often Should You Post to Become Successful on Medium? (2024)

The real question is, are you ready to take your writing from casual to the next level? Are you ready for the effort this is going to ask of you?

I’ve been writing on Medium for almost a year, but feel like I’ve only recently really began to learn how to take things up a notch or two, and how to treat this space like a professional.

I’ve written hundreds of posts, but have only really begun to learn how it works over the past several months.

Maybe you can relate, or maybe you’re brand new? All the things that there are to learn can feel a little bit overwhelming. How often to publish your posts are at the top of the list.

I began to dig into learning how the big names on the platform were gaining success over the past several months, which pushed me to take up the daily publishing experiment. The more I watched and observed their habits, and the more advice I read, one theme began to emerge: Publish every day.

But two questions quickly follow that kind of challenge. Why? And is this really the only path for success?

Getting straight to it, from everything I’ve seen and experienced writing on Medium, the answer I’ve come to find is that you do. But, is it really so straightforward?

I think the real power of daily publishing is two-fold. You have to feed the algorithm and you have to take care of your readers and what they want.

While there is an algorithm that very likely wants to see daily activity from you and might even promote your work through some computer-mathematical-magic more often when you publish regularly, how you define success and how you measure growth is still entirely up to you.

I’m not really the one to say or to try and explain how the algorithm works or how it may work after Medium makes its updates and changes in the near future. But the second thing, taking care of your readers and what they expect, is something I have taken a lot of effort into becoming a student of.
