I will be cutting a driveway for a new house at [EDITED] Bicentennial Drive, Jefferson City, TN (Patriot Hills Golf Course). The main line is marked next to the street. How deep can I expect it to be? Also, I think fiber optic cable will be installed there soon, possibly before the concrete is poured. Would it be helpful if I put in conduit before the pour?
Thanks, Dave. Yes, 811 was called and marked lines but did not know how deep. Will probably have to hand dig as the water dept did when installing meter.
Normally it is supposed to 3 to 6 feet underground. When we come to repair the cable, we give you what is called a "Temporary Drop" That drop can either be aerial or on the ground. If an aerial temporary drop is placed, that drop is moved to the ground, so it can become a buried or permanent drop.
For instance, keep your Ethernet cables at least 8 inches (20 centimeters) away from power lines. Afterward, you will need to plan how deep you should bury your cable. We recommend a depth of at least two feet. Because if you do not bury your cable deep enough, it may suffer the risk of becoming severed someday.
During your appointment, the technician will first find the best location for the AT&T Wi-Fi® gateway in your home. Then, a new fiber service line may need to be run and fiber extended inside the home to the gateway. If a new fiber service line is needed, it will be buried sometime soon after the installation.
We'll first place the line temporarily on your lawn, after the fiber installation, but it will be buried within 14 to 21 business days—as long as the ground isn't frozen. If the ground is frozen, we'll come back ASAP after the ground thaws, which is usually in the spring.
2.15. Cable Depth: the depth at which buried cable can be placed will vary with local conditions as with the case of 'freeze lines” (depth to which the ground freezes annually). Corning Cable Systems recommends that fiber optic cable be buried a minimum depth/cover of 30 inches (77 cm).
In most cases, however, it's preferable to hide the cabling out-of-sight and bury it underground. Direct burial OSP Ethernet cable does not need to be placed in a metal EMT or plastic PVC conduit but doing so is a best practice.
The answer is to try to go no further than 328 feet and preferably use Cat6 cabling for the fastest possible speeds across these distances. Additionally, you'll need to safeguard these wires from potential outside interference in the form of pests and weather.
I told him that I would be having the yard regraded in the near future and that the burial should be at least 6" deep and that it was only to be done when I was at home and could confirm the depth and where the fiber line was laid EXACTLY.
First, some basics: both cable companies and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) use fiber optic cables. You'll notice fiber optic cables hanging from poles, or they may be buried underground. Fiber optic cables that are buried underground may be pulled through conduits or even submerged in water.
