When Freedom Mobile launched (originally as Wind Mobile), it disrupted the wireless industry by offering significantly more data than competitors for a lot less. Our current best Freedom Mobile plan picks are no exception:

  • The5G Unlimited CA-US 100GB plan takes the top spot thanks to its 100GB of 5G data for just $50/month.
  • The 5G Unlimited CA-US 50GBoffers excellent value at just $34/month when you bring your own phone.
  • The $29 4G LTEplan is one of the best basic plans in the country, especially because Freedom is offering bonus data for a limited time.

To maximize your experience with Freedom Mobile, you’ll need to stay within the Freedom coverage area most of the time. Otherwise, you’ll be stuck with slow connections to partner networks if you've exceeded your nationwide data.

Read on to find the best Freedom Mobile cell phone plans right now.

How we picked the best Freedom Mobile plans
  • Price & value
We ensured you’re getting the most bang for your buck without sacrificing the essentials to keep you connected.
  • High-speed data
We looked at whether the amount of guaranteed “premium” data was reasonable for the plan price and flagged if you’re being overcharged for data you likely don’t need.
  • Coverage & network reliability
We evaluated each carrier’s nationwide 4G LTE and 5G coverage to predict your service quality (no dropped calls allowed!).
  • Plan extras and perks
If you get free Netflix or a hefty hotspot, we factored those in relative to the cost of the plan.

4.5 out of 5 overall

5G Unlimited CA-US 100GB | $50/month

  • Pros: Tons of in-network data, large phone selection, 5G speeds
  • Cons:Expensive monthly payment, limited network

Freedom Mobile is now offering 5G speeds, thanks to their partnership with VIdeotron. The 5G Unlimited CA-US Plan is the best of their 5G plans, offering 100GB of full-speed 5G data for just $50/month. If you're a post-secondary student, you can get it even cheaper, at just $40/month.

You can finance any phone that Freedom offers on this plan, including top-of-the-line models liketheApple iPhone 15 andtheGoogle Pixel 8. If you've got a decent device lying around at home, you can also bring your own phone to this plan and save some money in the process, though you'll miss out on that large data bonus.

There are tradeoffs when signing up for Freedom, however. The network's infrastructure isn't as strong as the "Big Three" of Rogers, Bell, and Telus. Freedom's mobile coverage is strong in major Canadian cities like Toronto and Calgary but is spotty at best in many other places.

Moderate Data Plan

4 out of 5 overall

5G Unlimited CA-US 50GB | $34/month

  • Pros: Generous in-network data allotment, includes nationwide data
  • Cons: Minimal nationwide data, limited-time offer

Freedom's moderate plans offer more than many of their competitors' high-end deals. We recommend bringing your own device to most plans, considering most people have perfectly serviceable phones lying around at home. But Freedom makes the decision a no-brainer,giving you a BYOD discount that knocks this excellent plan down to just $34/month.

Don't have a device at home? You can finance almost every phone that Freedom offers on this plan, so you can leverage your fast 5G to the max with a new device, like theiPhone 13,Google Pixel 7, and theSamsung Galaxy S24. If you're interested in trading in a phone, you can save up to $300 on the price of a new device.

Best Freedom Mobile Plans
for Basic Use

4out of 5 overall

4G LTE Plan | $29/month

  • Pros: Cheap, bring-your-own-phone discount
  • Cons:Minimal data, no nationwide data

Freedom's known for its generous in-network data allotments, but it also has plans for more basic users. This plan offers 4.5GB of data on the Freedom network, along with unlimited Canada-wide calling and international texting, for $29/month. Freedom also offers varying amounts of bonus data with this plan depending on when you activate.

You can finance a handful of devices with this plan, including the iPhone 12 and the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G, but it doesn't include any nationwide data. Before signing up, you'll need to be certain that the price is worth the tradeoff of having limited connectivity outside of major cities.

4out of 5 overall

4G LTE Starter Plan | $19/month

  • Pros: Cheap monthly payment, unlimited talk and text
  • Cons: Small data allotment

This plan is perfect for seniors or students on a budget, offering unlimited Canada-wide minutes, unlimited messages, and 1GB of 4G LTE data on the Freedom Network for just $19/month. The plan also offers the opportunity to pick up a brand new cheap smartphone, like the Samsung Galaxy A03s or the Motorola Moto G Pure, though the biggest savings come for those who BYOD.

While the data allotment on this is rather low, it's still better than many prepaid plans in Canada. Even better, with this Freedom plan, you'll never be charged an overage fee if you exceed 250MB: Freedom will throttle your speed, but you'll still be able to use your phone for basic functions, like browsing the web.

Methodology: How WhistleOut rates cell phone plans

WhistleOut evaluates phone plans based on the following criteria:

  • Price & value: Not all cheap plans are “bad,” and not all expensive plans are worth it. We look at everything a plan includes and compare it to other plans from the same carrier as well as similar plans from competitors in the market, to determine whether the value is consistent with the price.
  • High-speed data: Also called “premium” data, this is how much data you get at full 4G/5G speeds before they can or will slow down. The more guaranteed high-speed data the plan includes, the better experience you’ll generally have—but there’s also usually a limit to how much you actually need, and we ensure that you’re not overpaying for data that will go unused.
  • Coverage & network reliability: The breadth of each carrier’s 4G LTE and 5G networks determines your reception and service. Particularly in the case of 5G, some carriers offer far more robust coverage than others, which affects how their phone plans perform in different parts of the country.
  • Plan extras and perks: In addition to the basics—talk, text, and data—some plans throw in freebies like hotspot allowances, cloud storage, entertainment subscriptions, or service discounts.

Our mobile experts leveraged proprietary data and real-world customer feedback to evaluate the bestFreedom Mobile plans. We considered plan-specific elements, including perks, and premium data allowances. After performing hands-on testing and extensive research, including customer feedback, we picked the Freedom plans we feel meet the needs of most people.
